I am appreciative of the LEAD Office’s commitment to ethics because it has made me more conscious of how I practice and do not practice ethics on a daily basis. I have learned that ethics is not about making a decision between right and wrong, but rather right and right. Ethics is about making a tough decision that can potentially have an effect on other people, whether it is directly or indirectly.
I am learning that there is not one right answer, but many different answers that can satisfy the dilemma. Learning how to practice “good” ethics has helped me not only to stand up for what is right but also challenge myself to make decisions that are beneficial in the long term.
When I think of Ethics, I think of how I am learning to be more socially conscious of other identities. As I realize that I have no excuse not to do what is best for everyone. I think it is important to not only learn about identities different from my own but serve as someone who speaks out against those who do not acknowledge these identities. As a leader I am an activist for social change and it is my responsibility to not be a bystander in any fashion.
