Family Weekend Day of Service.

I love being able to make a positive change in my community and encourage others to join something that they are passionate about.  I love seeing others succeeds and find the home within a larger population. And most importantly I love being able to be actively engaged in the community around me.

The things that I love about being involved have helped me create an understanding of what it means to be engaged at a large institution like Mason.  Being involved in the Mason community has helped me become more confident in speaking to others as well as help me find meaning and purpose in my life.  To me it is very important that I have purpose and meaning in everything I do because it allows me to give it my all.  Although I may not find the “meaning” of everything I do right away, I enjoy the process of making a change in my community and getting others excited about things which drive them to their success.

Engagement is an important aspect of building community because it allow people to feel a part of something larger than themselves.  As a leadership consultant I have been able work with many different students who have helped me realize the importance of being involved and engaged in what happen around me.  Many times I have wanted walk away from it all, but it is when I stay till the end that I get the most reward.  I have learned that being actively involved my community also comes with the social responsibility to speak out when something is not going right.  It has helped me become a strong person and also an advocate for any type of social change.

It is important to me that I am actively engaged in what is happening around me because it make me feel like I am a part of the Mason community.  Being involved in different aspects of University Life has helped me reflect on my personal values and long with the values which are reflected by the university.  I have been able to learn life skills that will help me be successful in my future career.
