NCLC 204: Intro to Leadership

Examines historical and contemporary leadership theories, and analyzes various methods and styles of leadership while providing students with opportunity to better understand their leadership strengths and challenges.

 

NCLC 465 Independent Study : Applied Ethics in Organization

This learning community will explore the ways ethics and ethical climates are enacted in diverse organizational settings and the role of leaders in creating and sustaining those climates.  This is an experiential learning course, which allows students to engage in project-based learning and applications.  During the first half of the semester, students and instructors together will explore questions such as: What is organizational culture and how is leadership related to culture building? How are values, morals, and ethics established and sustained in organizations by leaders and group members? Is ethical leadership desirable and necessary?  What is the responsibility of leaders to establish ethical climates in their organizations and communities?  What are the tensions between ethics and leadership?

 

Emerging Leaders

The Emerging Leaders program is an eight-week course designed to introduce leadership topics to a cohort of new and beginning leaders. Topics include leadership styles, managing conflict, stress management, and more.Identify possible leadership involvement opportunities at Mason.  Some of the class learning outcomes include establishing and building a relationship network with students, faculty, and staff.  Locate activities and programming on campus and within the LEAD Office to enhance leadership development.  Define at least one of the Mason Leads Core values and it’s importance to your leadership practice.  Articulate a way in which you can apply what you have learned in the Emerging Leaders Program in your everyday leadership practice

Active Leaders

The Active Leaders program is offered by the LEAD (Leadership Education And Development) office and is the subsequent course to the Emerging Leaders program.  It is a 10-week seminar designed to provide a more advanced leadership opportunity for Mason students.  Please note that past participation in the Emerging Leaders program is not a prerequisite for Active Leaders.  The primary focus is to provide a high quality leadership program for active student leaders at Mason. 

 

NCLC 395: Leading Diversity

This course, Leading Diversity, will enable students to develop a greater understanding for identity development and exploration at the intrapersonal and interpersonal levels and how it plays out in groups, institutions, and structures. We will do experiential work and training and develop the skill sets for greater cultural competency.

Resident Advisor

This course is intended to provide ongoing support, educations and practical application techniques to assist George Mason University Resident Advisors in becoming more accomplished leaders that support the residential education priorities.

Peer Leadership: Patriot Leader

The Orientation and Family Programs and Services Sprint Training Course introduces students to the principles of effective leadership.  Students will apply knowledge gained from the course directly to their other roles and responsibilities on the Student Leader Team.  through course readings, experiential activities, class discussions and assignments, participants will explore and acquire knowledge o : leadership theory, professionalism as it pertains to their work, effective communication, time management, problem solving, self awareness, group dynamics, citizenship and diversity appreciation.
