Emerging Leaders

PicMonkey Collage

This semester I had the honor of being able to co-facilitate this class.  During the eight weeks of the Emerging Leaders program my copartner and I discussed and facilitated activities around the core values which are an important aspect to the leadership model in which the LEAD Office believes in as stated by MasonLeads.  This class is an enrichment course which students are able to define what leadership means to them and how to live in congruence with the ideas and values the set forth.  The objective of the Emerging Leaders Programs is to introduce students to the idea of leadership through a fun, interactive and thought provoking way.

As a facilitator for this course I learned a lot about the logistics that goes into planning classes as well as being able to adapt to change quickly.  I really enjoyed being the facilitator of this class because I had previously taken part in the Emerging Leaders Program last year.  It was fun to be able to facilitate classes to my peers about something I am passionate about as well as the different aspects of leadership and the importance of why these set values are important to someone wanting to create positive change in their community and on campus.

Alumni Speaker Series

7

The Alumni Speaker Series is a program piece that happens every semester.  It is traditionally a panel style discussion, where the alumni share their stories and insights about their time at Mason.  This program is designed to connect to student with alumni and inform them that Leadership is possible through any venue.  The alumni discuss their time as a Mason student and how their involvement on campus has translated into their career or current work life.  It is where Alumni can be reflective, but also empower students to be the “change they wish to see” and to keep working hard at it.

Working on the Alumni Speaker Series this year has challenged me in good ways.  I have been able to learn about how to work with other people and network with other offices on campus.  This opportunity has taught me how to effectively negotiate and compromise ideas to come up with one great idea.
